Engine building
Wingspan
Bird cards and action rows create a system that develops over the course of the game. The attraction is seeing individual effects become a sequence, while deciding when another improvement is worth the action needed to obtain it.
What to watch for
Follow the basic actions before studying individual bird powers. Watch when an action's effects resolve and which direction a sequence runs. A demonstration should distinguish a one-time effect from a repeatable power and an end-game scoring condition.

At your first table
Use the base-game setup that matches your edition and player count. Keep the goal information visible, and read an unfamiliar card's timing carefully before playing it. Resolve a complicated sequence aloud during a learning session so everyone can follow the steps. Near the end, compare improving an action with using the system you have already built.
A video helps explain the flow. Use the rulebook and official corrections for your copy to resolve a rules question.
