Route building

Ticket to Ride

Build connections across a shared map while weighing a visible opportunity against a private objective. The map makes progress easy to see, but the useful question is often when to commit to a route rather than simply which route looks attractive.

What to watch for

Watch how collecting cards differs from claiming a connection, then follow one destination ticket from the hand to the map. Notice which information is public and which remains private. During the teach, show how the game ends as well as how a route is built.

At your first table

Before a first play, find the rules for your map and edition. Check ticket selection, any restrictions on parallel routes and final scoring. Keep a reference beside the board rather than stopping each turn to reconstruct the same rule. Afterward, compare the moments when waiting preserved flexibility and when it cost an opportunity.

A video helps explain the flow. Use the rulebook and official corrections for your copy to resolve a rules question.
